After years of insignificance the small football club EINTRACHT FRANKFURT hit the big draw and faced FC BARCELONA as their opponent of the Europa League quarter finals in April 2022. Frankfurt supporters were excited to the maximum even though the chances of getting eliminated from the tournament couldn’t have been higher. The two matches have been seen as the biggest and most important in the history of the club, but the chances for victory were minimal.
When EINTRACHT took the lead in the home game everyone in Frankfurt went crazy with joy. Even after Barca equalized and the draw was brought over time people in Frankfurt were proud and felt like they witnessing a historic moment.
Nobody could have anticipated what was going to happen next, when 30.000 supporters – the biggest away crowd in the history of football – went out to Barcelona for the second leg ….
